Marriage and family find their origin in God himself. They belong to the order of creation. In other words, they are not distinctively “Christian” institutions; they do not start with Christ, nor do they limit themselves to the scope of the church. They are, rather, “human” institutions that are in constant interaction with their historical context. Nevertheless, Christian marriage and family reach a very high meaning and value when, redeemed by Christ, they become part of the new creation and agents of the Kingdom of God on earth.
