It is with great joy that we introduce this booklet by John Calvin. It was originally titled De vita hominis christiani in Latin, and De la vie de l’homme chrétien in French. In English it is known as The Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life. This edition is not a translation of the English edition but a new translation from the original, which is featured in the new Spanish edition of the Institutes of the Christian Religion (III, vi-x, Libros Desafío, 2011). De la vida del cristiano opens a window for us into a different spirituality, one that not only sets our eyes on Jesus, but plants our feet firmly on the ground. This spirituality sets itself apart from those that emphasize meditation, mysticism, and other-worldly attitudes. Calvin reminds us that we are where God wants us to be. In the last 500 years, this booklet has been influential in both the English-speaking world and in the Netherlands, yet in the Spanish-speaking world its influence has been minimal. We pray, therefore, that our almighty God may use this booklet to refresh the minds and awaken the calling of believers and reach with his grace those who do not yet believe.
